This week kicked off with swarms and swarm control, including the importance of giving the bees enough room so they wont swarm.

David talked through bee diseases, including graphic gooey pictures of American Foul Brood, which I wont repeat here because I’m quite squeamish. There was also a talk about keeping things clean and in good order at the apiary in order to avoid the above issues.

Finally, we had a nice chat from Pauline, talking about the structure of the BBKA and the government funded organisations that look after our bees, why people might like to join the BBKA, about the benefits and insurances, and the local support by our division.
